Scarecrows Celebrate 20 Years with Music

Meaford’s Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival is about to reach a milestone in this its 20th year of the type of down-home fun and frivolity that has put it on the map in Ontario and across Canada.

So, drum roll, please. Strike up the band, let’s put on our dancing shoes, raise our voices in song, and celebrate.

This years’s theme is Scarecrows Celebrate 20 years with Music.

The Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival executive has great plans to make this year’s event a party to remember. At the top of our list is a birthday bash to honour all of the volunteers and sponsors who, from Day One, have been the cornerstone of our success. The successes of the past 19 years would not have been possible without their enthusiasm, hard work, and support. More details on the 20th anniversary volunteers and sponsors birthday bash to follow.

Our decorating committee, in particular, has been looking forward to this birthday year to showcase a new side to Meaford’s scarecrows, the talented musicians and singers that they can be. After all, 19 years of experience has shown that there is no limit to what a scarecrow can be or do.scarecrow_invasion

The Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival has evolved from a simple display of scarecrows on Sykes Street into one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals and Events. Its significance to community life and tourism was recognized provincially in 2011 when the executive received, on behalf of all scarecrow volunteers, the June Callwood Award. In the months leading up to the invasion and festival on Sept. 30th, we will be sifting through our scrapbooks and files and will be able to share with you glimpses of the past 19 years.
