L&O Showcase Headliner announced

The Collingwood Live & Original Music Series celebrates finding musical creativity and innovation at the grass-roots level, and brings audiences into contact with artists on the ascent.

The multi-day event consists of the L&O Showcase, L&O Songwriter Showdown, and L&O Encore.

On Friday, July 22, the Collingwood Live & Original Music Series is pleased to present a Showcase concert event on our largest stage. Featuring talent on the rise, the Showcase will give the audience the opportunity to experience great music from artists who are building on their success. There’s no competition element, but these artists know the work it takes to make it in the music industry. This concert is an opportunity to experience two great artists performing their original music in a great live show.

The Headliner for this inaugural Showcase is the 2014 CCMA Group of the Year:

The music of the Small Town Pistols features songwriting that is raw and real — from the smoky western crime story “Ghosts” to the moseying “I Only Smoke When I Drink,” the call out of the peacocking man in “Jester In A Crown” to the rollicking “The Other Man,” the group’s collaboration with fellow country star Brett Kissel.

Formerly of The Wilkinsons, siblings Amanda and Tyler have grown and matured their sound from roots that were acknowledged by CCMA and Juno awards, as well as two Grammy nominations. Marked by fluid harmonies, high-powered vocals, and critically acclaimed songwriting, the Small Town Pistols continue to grow fans and followers.

A Special Guest performer will return triumphantly to Collingwood after winning last year’s singer/songwriter contest during the 2015 Live and Original Music Series. GINA HORSWOOD will kick things off with her full band in tow, showcasing music from her soon-to-be-released album, “Bad Fruit”.

Hailing from a small town in Australia, where she scored two top-10 country singles off her debut album, “Our Way”, Gina’s troubadour path has led her through Nashville, Tennessee, all the way to Collingwood for last year’s L&O competition. Her current music draws upon personal experiences travelling the world, developing an honest, organic, and compelling musical style that leaves her audience wanting more.

The Collingwood Live & Original Music Series also presents two additional L&O events celebrating music that is raw, real, and relatable.

This event is the evolution from L&O’s inaugural year in 2015, which saw Gina crowned as the first Live & Original Winner, after wowing the judges and voting audience with her vocal style and musical talent. This year’s enhancements include a larger venue at the Gayety Theatre, more opportunities to experience up and coming musicians, and new ways for festival-goers to see and support a favorite singer/songwriter in their quest for a share of $5,000 in cash. The opportunity to audition for the Songwriter Showdown is open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016.

After a two-week break from the Songwriter Showdown, our top three artists will return to Collingwood on Saturday, August 6 for a free concert at the Shipyards Amphitheatre, under the stars. The 2016 Champion and the two runners-up, will show off the music that won over the crowds and the judges. There are no tickets required to attend this intimate event, but the music, the view and the amazing natural setting means it will fill up fast, so get there early!
