Blues Guitarist, Vocalist and Songwriter Gayle Ackroyd Joins Wayne Buttery and the Groove Project as Their Special Guest in their “Blues at the Mews” Series
On Thursday, March 24th, Guelph-based and Brampton area-born blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Gayle Ackroyd will be Wayne Buttery and the Groove Project’s special guest for a set in their “Blues at the Mews” Series at the Harbour Street Fish Bar. Buttery’s “Project” is a 4 piece house band with keyboards, drums guitar and bass – with the addition of Gayle as a fifth member. She will be playing and singing classics from blues icons including Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, and Susan Tedeschi. This is her third time being asked to guest with this fine band.
Gayle’s distinctive performing style is described by Lenny Stout In the Toronto Star as “a whole lot of tender, and a little bit tough.”
She has appeared on festival and night club stages all across the country, including: The Calgary Stampede, Mariposa Music Festival, Harbourfront Water’s Edge Cafe, Toronto Blues Society’s Women’s Blues Review, the C.N.E., the Hamilton Blues Festival, Albert’s Hall in Toronto, and, Orillia Blues Festival. Gayle has hosted numerous songwriting workshops, including the TV series “It Started with a Song”on Graham Cable. Awards include a Top Ten placement for “Train of Love” in radio station Mix 99 FM’s songwriting competition, and Toronto Arts Council and FACTOR grants that allowed her to spend time songwriting in Nashville. Her workshop skills are honed through her regular teaching activities.
