Downtown Collingwood’s Christmas Season Launch!

The first snowfalls of winter set the stage for a magical new season. Soon decorations and millions of lights brighten the night sky, skates are pulled from storage and dusted off, lists begin to appear and the excitement of celebrations builds with friends and family.

Join Downtown Collingwood in celebrating the launch of the Christmas Season in Collingwood on Saturday November 21st.  It’s a day filled with memorable and wonder-filled events and activities…. from a special Holiday Market that gives you a chance to stock up on homemade holiday goodies, to strolling entertainers …. culminating in the arrival of Santa, the lighting of the town Christmas tree and fireworks!

This festive fun filled day is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Begin the day by visiting our Farmers’ Market vendors who are joined by local artist and artisans bringing you the last of the seasonal harvest, exceptional meats, preserves and baked goods.  It’s the perfect way to stock your pantry!  The market is located in the public square between the Tremont and the Collingwood Library, just off Simcoe Street – both in European style huts and under the big tent.

The ‘Fresh from the Fringe’ festival continues for its second weekend at the Simcoe Street Theatre with the children’s show, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Tickets are only $10 and are available at the door.

Santa’s reindeer in training will also be joining us for the day as they bring holiday wishes from the north pole – a delight for both young and old.  Located in front of the town hall the reindeer and their keepers will answer your questions about Santa’s special training regime for the big night.

The tradition of sugar plums dancing in your head will be returning as the FleetWood Dance Centre again brings us live dancing windows .…. what a perfect way to explore the downtown.

At 5 p.m. – the anticipation will begin as the annual Santa Claus parade makes it way north along Hurontario Street from Fourth to First Streets.   This year’s magical theme is ‘Christmas in Motion.. celebrating the fun you have with family and friends during the holiday’.  The parade will feature floats and music, highlighting the joys of Christmas celebrations … the warmth and magic of celebrating the special time of the year with friends and family.  The Parade will finish with the jolly old elf arriving in town in his very special sleigh… follow behind him as he makes his way down the street towards the town’s Christmas tree.

Immediately following the parade, join Santa at the Federal Building, just south of Loblaw Great Food, as we officially light the town Christmas tree to mark the arrival of the festive season.  The day’s activities will end in a bang as Fireworks will fill the sky marking the official beginning of the Christmas season in Downtown Collingwood.  The Fireworks display is presented by PyroWorld and sponsored by Karen Fritz, Mortgage Broker, CENTUM Alternative Mortgages Ltd.

There is something magical in the air as you walk back through Downtown Collingwood. You’ll be amazed by the lights above the street, the three dimensional sleigh and reindeer and so much more – there is nothing like coming ‘Home for the Holidays’.

Join us in Downtown Collingwood on Saturday November 21st  as it transforms into a wintery playground with dazzling holiday lighting installations, seasonal winter magical banners and a day filled with unique signature events – all to launch the holiday season.
