Grey County Road Race and Time Trial

In Ontario Canada we have world class facilities, beautiful countryside, great roads and the infrastructure in place to create and host fantastic cycling courses and world class events.

After having participated in hundreds of races I decided to apply my learning to hosting races here in Ontario starting in 2012. My main goal is to build challenging courses that put the rider’s experience first; limiting peloton size and providing for increased caravan support puts the rider’s safety and experience at the forefront. By adopting best practices from the most successful amateur cycling events and soliciting and incorporating feedback from participants, I continue to look for ways to improve my events.

It is only through the support from the cycling community in Ontario, the UCI, the UGFWS, the Canadian and Ontario Cycling Associations, the Ontario Provincial Police, The County of Grey, the Town of Blue Mountains, Blue Mountains Village Association, Clearview Township, The Town of Collingwood, Sportsnet, Toronto Digital Imaging, Wheels of Bloor, VeloFIx, Racer Sportif, Collingwood Cycling Club, and many others, that this event is possible, Thank you.

Fred Thomas (A-D Racing) won the Grey County Road Race Men UCI Granfondo World Series (44-49) with a time of 3:56:07. David Thompson(Wheels of Bloor) finished second (3:59:56) and Cary Moretti (True North Medical Road Corp) finished third (4:00:22). The 140 km (85 mile) course featured 7,000 feet of climbing, temperatures in the 80s, top level Canadian competition and the stunning scenery of Grey County, Ontario. Fred said, “This was a much tougher race than last year. There were a lot of attacks, it was hot and the Scenic Caves climb was full-on character development second and third time around.” Fred won the race in 2015 and travelled to Aalborg, Denmark for the finals. Fred is President and Founder of A-D Bikes, which is also a sponsor of the 2016 event. Fred added, “It is a great pleasure to be a sponsor, participate in the race and support the efforts of my friend Bruce Bird. Canada is the best kept secret in cycling and I am looking forward to raising the profile of A-D in this market.” A-D Bikes would like to thank everyone who sponsored, organized, marshaled and volunteered to make the event happen: Sportsnet Toronto Digital ImagingBlue Mountain Village Wheels of Bloor/Graywood Development, PBNJ Consulting and Blade Wheels & Tires. When asked about a possible trip to Perth in September, Fred said “It is a long way to go, but once you get going, it is not too bad. I hear great things about riding in Oz so I am ruling nothing out!” Stages Cycling Lightweight Strava Cycling Ontario Cycling Association VeloInk Verge Sport Vittoria
