Any Dream Will Do - The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber

The Music of the “Knight”, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber that is!

When Adrian Marchuk (he was Frankie Valli in The Jersey Boys) approached me about his idea to write this concert style of play I immediately got very excited! First of all I adore Adrian’s work, but who doesn’t love the music of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber? Put that together with four fantastic singers and you have a recipe for magic on the stage!

Any Dream Will Do is a journey through the life and times, and of course the music, of this musical theatre icon. When musical theatre was beginning to feel dated to the public, Sir Andrew began to create musicals with a more modern pop feel. Remember, the great musicals of the past were actually the pop music of their day. Thank goodness he did, because we were all given the gift of such beautiful musicals as Les Miserables, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat…and on and on.

Speaking of “Phantom”, here is a little note. Our new Director of Fundraising, Jennifer Knight, is married to Eugene Zenger. Eugene now works for the City of Barrie but was in charge of facilities at The Pantages Theatre (now The Canon) when Phantom of the Opera was playing there in it’s heyday. Look for some of the great photos and artifacts from that show in our lobby during the run of Any Dream Will Do, on loan to us from Eugene, who we send out special thanks for his generosity in sharing these with us!

See you at the theatre next week.
