Dr. David Foot launches new speaker series
On October 1, the Business in Motion luncheon speaker series will kick-off with an outstanding speaker.
World-renowned speaker, Canadian economist, demographer, and best-selling author of Boom, Bust & Echo, Dr. David Foot, will be presenting in Collingwood at the Historic Gayety Theatre on Thursday, October 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Business in Motion luncheon speaker series is an initiative by various business partners, in support of the Town’s Economic Development Action Plan. The series is aimed at inspiring business growth in Southern Georgian Bay, and will bring recognized business leaders to Collingwood to generate ideas, discussion, and collaboration.
This is not Dr. Foot’s first visit to Collingwood. This time however he will be coming with a fresh perspective on “the new age” that he has observed Collingwood and the region entering.
The presentation will focus on How to Succeed from the Demographic Shifts in Southern Georgian Bay. Dr. Foot contends that demographics explains two-thirds of everything — from business planning and education to human resources and health. With an understanding of demographics, a business, an individual or a government has a strong foundation upon which to prepare, manage and strategize for change.
Using material from the various editions of his book Boom, Bust and Echo, presentation topic areas will include:
- The health care crunch and innovation opportunities they present
- Jobs, corporations and the evolving nature of work
- Rethinking education- what are the areas to focus on in schools and colleges that will keep the youth engaged in the community
- Leisure activities that will grow and which ones will not
- Life stage economics- a little more life, lifestyle, exercise, enjoyment
The power of Dr. Foot’s work is underlined by Roy MacGregor from the Globe and Mail who commented that “when it comes to projecting trends, David Foot has an impressive record.”
Following the presentation, Dr. Foot will be available for additional questions and discussions at the networking lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be a selection of finger foods catered by the local Men with Knives, with special guest Chef Scott Carter, formerly of Stuffed Peasant. Space has sold out already for this lunch which shows the interest in this presentation!

David Foot is an outspoken and controversial demographics expert who can bring to life demographic statistics and make the aging of society relevant to any specific interest group. He explores how changing demographics, especially the aging of the massive boomer generation and the coming into the marketplace of their children, the echo generation, is redefining society’s needs.
