Community funding restores, expands Jazz & Blues series
Thanks to a major financial contribution from Collingwood’s Thomas Vincent of Balmoral Village, the recently cancelled Jazz and Blues at the Station concert series has been restored.
Frank McNulty, the series organizer and President of the Collingwood Jazz & Blues Society announced: “Thomas Vincent has generously come forward with an offer of funding that would allow the series to continue as planned.” Music fans can now hear great jazz and blues every Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the grounds of the Station museum, located at 45 St. Paul Street.
Together with originally budgeted funding from the Town of Collingwood, this celebrated series will be back again on Wednesday, July 1, and will run through until Wednesday, August 24.
“We’re so pleased to have this great concert series back,” said Collingwood Councillor Kathy Jeffery. “The Town continues to support this series, and we’re thrilled that organizer Frank McNulty was able to find another community partner who shares this love of community concerts.”
On top of the contribution provided to restore the Jazz and Blues at the Station series, Chestnut Park Real Estate has come forward with sponsorship that will allow the Jazz and Blues Society to offer an all-new concert series this fall.
This new four-concert Great Songbook Series will feature the most popular and engaging songs from Broadway, theatre, Hollywood and more. The newly renovated 65 Simcoe Street Theatre will host the Thursday evening concerts that will take place during October, November, and December of this year.
The Collingwood Jazz and Blues Society was started by a grassroots group of Collingwood music fans in 2007 and was incorporated with non-profit status in December 2008. The Society presently has 100+ members who volunteer time to assist and support the presentation, production and operation of Jazz and Blues events in the Collingwood – Blue Mountain area.
Our Jazz&Blues in the Schools program has been presenting well received concerts and workshops in elementary and high schools in Collingwood since 2010. Our program does not replace existing music programs but augments them. Students are exposed to music they would not hear otherwise in today’s media world.
The Society schedules a Winter Blues Series of four concerts the 3rd.Thursdays at 7pm. January through April, in the Studio Theatre, 65 Simcoe Street, Collingwood.
Series tickets are available at a special price for this series at the Crow’s Nest, 239 Hurontario St. Collingwood or through PayPal on the Events page on this site.
