Centurion makes first stop in Collingwood
One of Ontario’s top cycling events will be making a stop in Collingwood for the first time this year on Friday, September 18.
The town will be hosting the Centurion Time Trial, a 10 km out and back course that will take cyclists along a rolling road into Clearview Township and back again. It’s guaranteed to be a great event, as specialized time trial bikes, high-speed wheels and aerodynamic helmets take cyclists to speeds in excess of 50 km an hour.
“Collingwood and the South Georgian Bay area are spectacular for cycling, with this section of the road featuring many elements that make for a great time trial race and something we’ve been wanting to do for several years now,” said Shelley Bramblett, Race Director, Centurion Canada, The Blue Mountains.
“We are well known for our many kilometers of trails, and we’re thrilled to be a partner for this great event” added Martin Rydlo, Director, Marketing and Business Development for the Town of Collingwood.
Spectators will be able to watch the time trialists roll off the starting platform every 10 – 15 seconds. More than 50 cyclists are expected to participate in this high-speed event that will travel south along the 10th Sideroad, starting at 6:15 p.m.
As part of Centurion’s desire to give back to the community, they will also be supporting the first Currie’s Community Bike Ride. This FREE 7 km out and back bike ride will give cyclists of all abilities a chance to bike on a traffic free section of the 10th Sideroad. Police officers will be at each intersection along the road to ensure kids, parents and grandparents can enjoy this cycling gem. Bikers will be able to start between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m., with all expected to be finished by 6:00 p.m. This will give participants in the Currie’s Community Bike Ride prime viewing of the Centurion Time Trial. With great snacks available at Currie’s Market and beer available at the Side Launch Beer Garden, it promises to be an exciting afternoon and evening for all on September 18.
